MHC Alloy in Extrusion Dies

MHC alloy (Molybdenum Hafnium Carbon Alloy) is high-performance hot-work die material based on high-purity molybdenum (Mo ≥98.5%) with the addition of hafnium (Hf: 1.0%–1.2%) and carbon (C: 0.05%–0.15%) for extrusion dies. During high-temperature extrusion of copper, aluminum, and other non-ferrous metals, conventional die materials tend to soften or fail by creep under temperatures exceeding 1000°C and severe wear conditions. Through powder metallurgy, in-situ HfC nanoparticles are formed within the molybdenum matrix to pin grain boundaries, increasing the recrystallization temperature to above 1500°C. This enables MHC alloy to maintain outstanding hardness, creep resistance, and wear resistance at elevated temperatures, making it an ideal material for extending extrusion die service life.
1. Advantages of CTIA's MHC Alloy in Extrusion Dies
(1) Excellent High-Temperature Strength: Maintains high tensile strength and load-bearing capacity at temperatures above 1000°C.
(2) Outstanding Creep Resistance: HfC dispersion strengthening effectively suppresses deformation during prolonged continuous extrusion.
(3) Superior Microstructural Stability: Grain growth and softening are minimized at elevated temperatures, ensuring consistent die cavity dimensions.
(4) Excellent Thermophysical Properties: High melting point, low coefficient of thermal expansion, excellent thermal shock resistance, and high thermal conductivity make it suitable for demanding thermal processing conditions.
(5) Good Machinability: Suitable for turning, milling, grinding, and precision machining to produce complex extrusion die components for various manufacturing processes.
2. Applications of CTIA's MHC Alloy in Extrusion Dies
(1) Die cores, die sleeves, and liners for hot extrusion of copper and copper alloys.
(2) Mandrels, guide sleeves, and load-bearing components for aluminum alloy extrusion dies.
(3) Critical working components for hot extrusion dies used with superalloys and difficult-to-deform metals.
(4) Hot extrusion dies for glass, ceramics, and powder metallurgy products.
