MHC Alloy in Hot Forming Dies

MHC alloy (Molybdenum Hafnium Carbon Alloy) is molybdenum-based high-temperature alloy manufactured from high-purity molybdenum with the addition of hafnium (Hf) and carbon (C). Through powder metallurgy and high-temperature densification, in-situ dispersed HfC strengthening particles are formed within the matrix. These strengthening mechanisms significantly improve high-temperature strength and creep resistance by pinning grain boundaries and inhibiting dislocation movement, making MHC alloy an ideal material for hot forming dies operating under high temperatures and heavy loads.
1. Advantages of CTIA's MHC Alloy in Hot Forming Dies
(1) High room-temperature strength, while maintaining excellent mechanical properties above 1000°C, allowing it to withstand heavy pressure loads during the hot forming process.
(2) The HfC particles effectively pin dislocations and grain boundaries, drastically reducing the high-temperature creep rate and preventing the permanent deformation of dies.
(3) The recrystallization temperature is above 1500°C, ensuring that grains resist growth during repeated thermal cycling, resulting in minimal dimensional variation and guaranteed forming precision.
(4) Features melting point of approximately 2620°C. The combination of high thermal conductivity and low coefficient of thermal expansion delivers outstanding resistance to thermal shock and thermal fatigue, significantly extending die lifespan.
(5) Facilitates precision machining, enabling the fabrication of complex die shapes to meet diverse hot forming process requirements.
2. Applications of CTIA's MHC Alloy in Hot Forming Dies
(1) Automotive Manufacturing: Die cavities, die cores, and heat-resistant inserts for boron steel hot forming dies.
(2) Sheet Metal Hot Forming: Working components and load-bearing structural parts for high-temperature sheet forming dies.
(3) Aerospace: Critical components for hot forming dies used with titanium alloys and superalloys.
(4) Hot Processing Equipment: High-temperature sizing dies, calibration dies, and guide and positioning components.
(5) Continuous Hot Forming Lines: High-temperature load-bearing components, support components, and positioning components.
